Creo en la crítica. Soy un firme defensor y practicante de la crítica. La crítica honesta es la mejor, si no la única forma de corregir o mejorar algo que desde tu punto de vista no funciona correctamente. Haces un análisis de la realidad y ofreces tu diagnóstico con ánimo constructivo, o incluso destructivo, pero honestamente.

Sin embargo en política pasa algo curioso. Y es que la crítica honesta no existe prácticamente. Se critican proyectos e ideas en función de si quienes los promueven son de los míos o no. Nada más. No hay un análisis sincero, no hay debate posible, porque de lo que se trata no es de buscar la mejor solución o de averiguar la verdad. De lo que se trata es de que todo lo que hacen «los ellos» está mal, da igual qué, cómo y por qué.

Esto ocurre evidentemente entre formaciones políticas, pero lo cierto, y esto resulta más grave, es que también ocurre dentro de los propios partidos. Corrientes y grupos de afines compiten entre sí y adoptan esa actitud sectaria que choca y escandaliza a quien llega de nuevo.

Te das cuenta de que da igual lo que hagas o como lo hagas, lo que digas y como lo digas. Sabes que cualquier propuesta que pongas sobre la mesa será criticada siempre por los mismos. Siempre, y por muchas vueltas que le des. Si lo haces de un modo te criticarán porque lo hiciste así, si lo haces del modo contrario te criticarán porque lo hiciste asao. Son tus enemigos, se ven a sí mismos como tus enemigos, y ya se sabe que al enemigo ni agua. No critican tus propuestas, ni tus palabras, ni tus ideas… te critican a ti, a su enemigo.

Lo terrible de este fenómeno es que provoca una reacción inmediata. Si tú sabes que hagas lo que hagas, y como lo hagas, vas a ser criticado siempre por los mismos, en seguida dejas de exponerte. Te vuelves reservado, y seguramente también algo sectario. Te rodeas de un grupo de gente con la que te llevas bien y trabajas a solas con ellos, aunque sepas que no es la solución ideal. Por eso digo que es terrible, igual que son terribles las cerraduras o cualquier otro invento fruto de la desconfianza del ser humano hacia el ser humano.

A veces, en la vida real, poner la otra mejilla funciona. Un gesto amable que conmueve. Pero en política si pones la otra mejilla te la parten igualmente… mientras se ríen en tu cara, por flojo, por débil.

Una vez creí, ingenuo de mí, que la política era un arte. El arte de encontrar soluciones para mejorar la convivencia y la calidad de vida en las polis. Seguramente eso debería ser, o hacia eso debería tender. Pero lo cierto es que hoy por hoy la política no es un arte, sino un vicio. Una degradación. Una de las disciplinas más sucias que puede practicar un ser humano. Estrategias, engaños, sectarismo, desconfianza, mentiras, deshonestidad… para sobrevivir en semejante lodazal has de sacar lo peor que hay en ti y decirte a ti mismo que da igual, que el fin justifica los medios. Mentira cochina.

Te dices a ti mismo que si no persistes dejarás vía libre a los golfos, pero dentro de ti sabes que en el proceso tú te estás volviendo tan golfo como aquellos de los que supuestamente quieres proteger a la sociedad. Porque no hay otra, porque para sobrevivir en este mundillo tienes que ser el más malote del lugar. Dejar los escrúpulos en casa y aguantar lo que sea, como sea, hasta volverte tan frío y duro que nada ni nadie pueda dañarte.

En fin, este es el panorama. Ante semejante cuadro cualquiera diría que lo que toca es coger los bártulos y tirar para casa. Desde luego, es lo que le recomendaría a cualquier amigo que quisiera meterse en esto. Pero a mí, estando ya tan abajo en los infiernos, lo que en verdad me apetece es llegar al fondo y darle un cogotazo a satán.
