A pesar de su enorme trascendencia, la noticia pasó por los medios sin pena ni gloria.
El pasado 4 de Marzo el Gobierno de Canarias decidió emitir deuda pública por un montante de 620 millones de euros, que finalmente fueron cerca de 1000 millones. Esto quiere decir que, de golpe y porrazo, a cada uno de los dos millones de canarios se nos ha endeudado con más de 300 euros por cabeza. Así, sin consultarnos. De hecho, si el 2009 lo cerramos con 2.350 millones de deuda, las previsiones del Gobierno son que en el 2010 la cifra ascienda a unos 3.500 millones. Es decir 1.750 euros por ciudadano canario.
Dicho de otra manera. Sepa usted que si tiene una familia más o menos normalita de 4 miembros, la deuda proporcional que les correspondería abonar rondaría los 7.000 euros. Un dinero.

La deuda la pagaremos entre todos: nosotros, nuestros hijos y aún nuestros nietos; pero ellos salvan la cara a corto plazo. En realidad, lo extraordinario es que no estemos mucho peor de lo que estamos, pues el control por parte del Estado frente a este tipo de prácticas es bastante pobre.
Volviendo al alcalde de Haría. Jose Torres Stinga se ahorraría innumerables quebraderos de cabeza si decidiera seguir la misma senda emprendida por el Gobierno de Arrecife (que ya ha anunciado la solicitud de un crédito de 20 millones de euros). Su municipio es uno de los menos endeudados, podría hacerlo sin ningún problema. Nadie se lo reprocharía, y muy pocos de sus vecinos se enterarían. Ni lazos amarillos, ni guerras, ni vainas. Dinerito fresco contante y sonante para pagar las nóminas y unos cuantos proyectitos interesantes que den alegría a la gente. Nueva mayoría absoluta y la deuda ya la pagarán las generaciones que vengan.
Pero Stinga no quiere hacer eso. Su tesis es bien simple: si ha de endeudarse alguien, que se endeude el Cabildo, pues de esa institución es desde la que se han tomado todas las decisiones equivocadas. Al menos aquellas que hicieron de entes como Inalsa o los CACT los despropósitos que hoy son.
Y no le falta razón a Stinga. Ni un pelo. Pepe Torres Stinga es un «rara avis» que huye de la deuda como del demonio. Sabe que para él personalmente sería mucho mejor pedir prestado el dinero y tener a todos contentos, pero no quiere traicionar a los suyos (y «los suyos» no es otra cosa que el pueblo de Haría) endeudándolos con un dinero que no les corresponde a ellos abonar.
Otra cosa es que esos doscientos mil euros mensuales que se gasta el Ayuntamiento de Haría nos parezca una barbaridad. A mí al menos me lo parece, tratándose de un municipio con tan poca población. Pero, en cualquier caso, es un gasto que se ajusta a unas previsiones en base al canon que los CACT están obligados a abonar. No es como en Yaiza, donde el cabrero la armó bien gorda liándose a dar licencias e hinchando los gastos corrientes sin la menor visión de futuro.
En definitiva, que he querido poner en evidencia estas dos posturas antagónicas, para que comparemos un poco: La facilona de Soria, Rivero o Cándido Reguera, a quienes no les duele en prendas endeudar al conjunto de los ciudadanos todo lo que haga falta para salvar la propia poltrona; y la comprometida de Stinga, que prefiere salir a la calle y partirse la cara con quien sea, antes que endeudar al pueblo del que se siente verdaderamente representante público.
