José Saramago, el comunista libertario.

José Saramago es (no era, es) muchas cosas, como la mayoría de nosotros lo somos. Pero las etiquetas favoritas de los periodistas y la gente en general a la hora de referirse a él son dos: «novelista» y «premio nobel». De hecho, los titulares hoy en la prensa inciden en ambos términos casi con unanimidad absoluta. Se trata sin duda de las etiquetas que generan más consenso social, además de las que le hicieron famoso, pero no son para mí las que mejor lo definen. Por eso no voy a hablar de ellas aquí.

José Saramago es comunista. Comunista con todas las letras, de los nobles y buenos, como sólo un novelista puede serlo. No un militar ni un político comunista, sino un novelista comunista. Porque el novelista crea sus personajes, los hace, los dirige, los enfrenta, los desarrolla. No trata con seres humanos de carne y hueso, sino con personajes.

Por eso Saramago renegó del regimen Cubano en cuanto a Fidel le dió por fusilar a personas y encerrar a periodistas.

Cuba no ha ganado ninguna heroica batalla fusilando a esos tres hombres, pero sí ha perdido mi confianza, ha dañado mis esperanzas, ha defraudado mis ilusiones. Hasta aquí he llegado.

Saramago renegó del regimen de Castro, pero no del comunismo. Porque para Saramago, como para mí, eso no es comunismo. Y si lo es, no es un comunismo intelectualmente defendible. Como tampoco es comunismo lo que practican países como China o Corea del Norte. Como tampoco fue comunismo lo de la Unión Soviética. Nada de eso es comunismo, porque el comunismo no es una ideología concebida para los seres humanos que somos, sino para los que idealmente deberíamos ser. El Comunismo que necesita la fuerza para imponerse y, sobretodo, perpetuarse, carece de legitimidad. Esto lo sabía Saramago, por eso se pasó al Comunismo Libertario, o Anarcocomunismo, matiz fundamental mediante el que algunos teóricos comunistas reniegan del Estado, en clara alusión a los ejemplos antes comentados. Partidos únicos, totalitarismos, dictadores militares… el comunismo que necesita tales cosas para existir no merece existir.

Extracto de una entrevista a Saramago:

A veces he reflexionado sobre el hecho de que yo siga siendo comunista. Por supuesto lo soy y no me imagino a mí mismo siendo algo distinto. Pero me he dado cuenta de que tenía que añadir algo a ese decir «yo soy comunista», y lo que estoy añadiendo es que soy un comunista libertario.

Sí, Saramago es comunista. Y no es un comunista de boquilla, sino uno comprometido. De los más comprometidos. Pero también muy inteligente, de los más inteligentes. Sus novelas, cada una de ellas, contiene sus alegatos y alecciones. Como tiene que ser. Porque, insisto, el comunismo no es una ideología para los seres humanos que hoy somos, sino para los que tal vez algún día seamos después de haber leído, entendido y asimilado muchos libros como los que escribió Saramago. Entonces, y sólo entonces, el comunismo llegará. Y llegará solo, como en «Ensayo sobre la lucidez». Sin necesidad de revoluciones ni de militares barbudos salvadores de la patria. A lo mejor ni siquiera lo llamarán comunismo, pero lo será del mismo modo que lo que hoy llaman comunismo no lo es.

Yo creo que todo esto Saramago lo entendió perfectamente. Lo supo, y lo transmitió. Sabía que el comunismo no era viable para nosotros tal cual éramos. Pero aun así jamás renegó de él, como el constructor de pirámides no reniega de su obra, por más seguro que esté de que él no vaya verla acabada en vida.

Ese es el Saramago que yo admiro y respeto. Ese es el Saramago al que yo doy las gracias por todo. Buen trabajo, maestro, ahora les toca a otros.

    El hecho de que Don José se haya calificado de «comunista» en mi opinión demuestra simplemente su humanidad.
    El «comunismo libertario» no existe, solo es un contrasentido patético creado por algún desequilibrado que intentó reinventar el agua tibia. Sus palabras me recuerdan a un profesor tonto e intolerante que solía decir para justificar las brutalidades de Stalin que «el Comunismo no ha fracasado porque el Comunismo no ha sido». ¡Habrase visto semejante bellaco! Pues sí de que los hay los hay.
    En algo tiene razón, solamente cuando el hombre deje de ser lo que es y se convierta en «lo que debería ser» será factible el Comunismo, es decir: rebaños y rebaños de borregos a quien trasquilar la lana, y manadas y manadas de vacas a quien ordeñar las tetas. Aunque pensandolo mejor poca diferencia hay entre las piaras humanas que hoy deambulan en la suciedad mundana y las ovejas o vacadas que pastan felices en sus respectivos pastizales.

    Tal vez tu profesor tenía razón, Pablo. Tal vez hacer caso a quienes saben más que tú de algunos temas no es sintoma de borreguismo, sino de sabiduría. Tal vez el borrego es quien vive convencido de que las cosas son como él piensa, cuando realmente son totalmente distintas. ¿Sabes cuántas corrientes de pensamiento que parten del comunismo hay? ¿Sabes lo diferentes que son unas de otras? ¿Sabes cuántas de ellas fueron llevadas a la práctica? «El comunismo libertario es un contrasentido inventado por algún desiquilibrado», dices. Y, sinceramente, pareces no tener ni idea de lo que dices. Tú ya tienes perfectamente claro lo que es el comunismo, ¿no es así? Y lo tienes claro no por lo que has estudiado o leido sobre el tema, sino porque para ti comunismo es Stalin, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro… hacen falta pocas luces. Comunismo no es, o no tiene por qué ser, sinónimo de represión, tiranía o ausencia de libertad individual. No es una cuestión fácil de resolver, sobretodo lo de la libertad individual, pero hay teorías comunistas que han indagado en ello, como el anarcocomunismo. Quienes hicieron del comunismo represión, tiranía y crueldad, interpretaron una de las teorías comunistas, que ni siquiera es una teoría general, a su propia conveniencia. Los fanáticos del capitalismo aprovecharon las crueldades de algunos de esos intérpretes para evitar cualquier crítica a su sistema inhumano, difundiendo convenientemente la idea de que el comunismo es eso, cuando se trata de algo completamente distinto. Para empezar no hay un sólo comunismo, hay decenas y hasta cientos de corrientes de pensamiento comunistas, algunas radicalmente diferentes entre sí. Como no hay un solo capitalismo, sino muchos matices en función de lo que propugnan unos economistas u otros. Personalmente, abogo por una mezcla de lo mejor de ambas ideas, por lo menos mientras los seres humanos sigamos siendo lo que somos.

    Si deseas discutir en serio, despójate antes de las ridículas vendas que cubren tus ojos.

  3. Me parece una auténtica aberración este artículo.
    Para empezar no entiendo cómo un individuo tiene la desfachatez, o quizás la inocencia, de despachar y dictaminar a diestro y siniestro lo que es, o lo que deja de ser comunismo.

    Se habla de «comunismo libertario» y dice que es este el que desea acabar con el Estado. Creo que deberías coger urgentemente un libro de ideologías políticas. Tampoco entiendo bien, el porqué la obseción con no calificar a Saramago de lo que él mismo se definióm siempre: como comunista.

    Se nota una intencionalidad clara, que no es otra que la manejada por la mayoría del pensamiento único en la prensa liberal, y es la crítica omnipresente a Cuba, Venezuela, y todo lo que suene a socialismo, aprovechando cualquier circunstancia.
    Incluida la muerte de un intelectual de reconocido prestigio como Saramago. Es complicado, no obstante, conectar dichos asuntos, por lo que hay que hacer, si me lo permites con bastante ligereza y falta de profesionalidad, una mezcla de omisiones y frases sacadas de contexto.
    Está claro que el componente comunista de Saramago exitió en sus épocas de activismo más férreas, como cuando estuvo de lado del movimiento zapatista, o del Partido COmunista Portugués. Según avanzó la edad su militancia como era de esperar ( los años no pasan en balde) fue disminuyendo, descafeinando incluso todo aquello por lo que luchó, y se vio reflejado esto en sus cercanías al jacobinismo españolista y a las conexiones con el PSOE.
    SIn embargo, no cabe duda del tremendo apoyo que Saramago dio a la Revolución Cubana, que incluso hasta el otro día con la delegación del cargo de Fidel Castro se preocupó por la salud del Comandante, recordando como siempre de qué lado está. Otro mismo con Venezuela y la Revolución Bolivariana.

Si el mismo Saramago dice que a ese hecho de «ser comunista», se sintió obligado a añadirle algo más, y que ese algo más es «comunismo liberal», tú interpretas que eso es una cita sacada de contexto o que, simplemente, chocheaba cuando lo dijo. Si él en esa misma entrevista, un poco más abajo, cuando le preguntan qué es eso de «comunismo libertario» contesta esto:

    «…es evidente que una concepción ortodoxa de lo que pudiera ser el comunismo, llevado a su último extremo como en el caso del anarquismo, llevaría a la disolución del Estado.»

    a tí te parecerá que es un desvarío, que el comunismo libertario no tiene nada que ver con la disolución del Estado, ¿no? Si te paso un enlace a la wikipedia donde se explica qué es el anarcocomunismo, supongo que tú me contestarás que la wikipedia está manipulada. Si Saramago afirma rotundamente renegar del régimen Castrista, tú me hablas de su juventud, como si fuera la experiencia que dan los años lo que nos hace más idiotas, en vez de al revés.

    No ha pasado una semana de su muerte y ya estamos todos interpretándole, poniendo palabras en su boca, dando más importancia a unas declaraciones u otras, a unas acciones u otras, en función de lo que reafirma nuestras propias convicciones ideológicas. Siempre ha sido así. Algunos montaron iglesias en nombre de Jesucristo, interpretando al hombre a su modo y manera, otros montaron Estados en nombre de Marx, haciendo lo propio con sus teorías.

    Es normal, y yo asumo la parte de culpa que me toca. No pretendo que mi interpretación de Saramago sea la buena. Pero sí me gustaría decirte algo a ti, Borja. Son las personas como tú, que se erigen en baluartes oficiales del comunismo «puro», los que más daño hacen a esta ideología. La gente de a pie recela del comunismo porque lo considera algo propio de dictaduras militares, una forma de vida que sólo puede implantarse a base de fuerza bruta y represión. Y eso no es el comunismo. Porque es importante distinguir entre la teoría socio-económica y la manera de llevar a la práctica esa teoría.

    Stalin era un psicópata que usó el comunismo como excusa para llevar a cabo su barbarie. Lo mismo puede decirse de Pol Pot… renegar del comunismo atacando a estos personajes es como renegar de la democracia hablando de esto que sufrimos hoy día, que desde luego no merece llamarse democracia porque no lo es en absoluto.

    Marinaleda es un claro ejemplo de lo que es verdadero comunismo. En Marinaleda no hay represión, no hay censura, los vecinos de Marinaleda pueden entrar y salir de pueblo cuando les viene en gana. No hay partido único, no hay policía militar prohibiendo el libre acceso a internet… y es que nada de eso es el comunismo. El comunismo de Marinaleda consiste en una forma de organización socioeconómica muy particular que ha llevado la prosperidad a un pueblo antaño miserable. La gente no quiere irse de Marinaleda, quiere ir allí. Dime en qué otro lugar comunista del mundo ocurre eso. En muy pocos, porque la cosa no consiste únicamente en tener satisfechas nuestras necesidad básicas. La gente quiere libertad, ansiamos sentirnos individualmente libres… y el comunismo no tiene por qué impedirnos serlo. Existen formas, como la renta básica de ciudadanía, de colectivizar los bienes comunes para que todos tengamos garantizado un mínimo, mientras cada cual puede seguir teniendo la oportunidad de desarrollarse individualmente en función de su propio esfuerzo y mérito. Esa es la mezcla por la que yo abogo.

    El comunismo libertario, Fernando, es un invento de hace mucho tiempo, y por suerte he podido profundizar en algunos de sus mayores baluartes; castellano-parlantes en el mejor de los casos.
    No es necesariamente un cita sacada de contexto, es un cita que da pie a lo que es tu deducción de lo que es el comunismo bueno y el malo. Obviamente, la identificación de Saramago con el comunismo en esencia, o con el zapatismo, o la revolución cubana no te interesa.
    En ningún caso me parece un desvarío pensar que el comunismo libertario pretende acabar con el Estado, de hecho el comunismo en cualquiera de las facetas lo pretende, y es ese, uno de los déficits que veo a tu argumentación en ese sentido.
    Por otro lado, ¿ Régimen castrista? ¿ Qué tipo de gobierno es ese? ¡Ah! Quizás te refieras al sistema político vigente en Cuba. Pues sobre eso te remito al escrito que no me has querido publicar.
    También, te exijo, con respeto, te exijo, que no me califiques, ni me etiquetes, pero se ve, que por desgracia, esa es una de tus aficiones favoritas: señalar y dictaminar con tus propios juzgados morales.
