El mundo de la ciencia firma un manifiesto contra la obra de Chillida en Tindaya

Hoy viernes 1 de julio a las 11.00 de la mañana se presentará de forma simultánea en las dos universidades canarias un manifiesto firmado por importantes figuras de la comunidad científica del Archipiélago en el que se solicita la retirada del proyecto de Eduardo Chillida para la montaña de Tindaya, en Fuerteventura, y la puesta en marcha de un proyecto alternativo que recupere los valores ambientales y culturales de este símbolo natural e histórico.

El documento está avalado por la firma de más de 100 catedráticos, doctores e investigadores de ambos centros universitarios canarios, así como de instituciones tales como el Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CESIC), la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV) y otras universidades del Estado. Se han adherido al manifiesto los dos Premios Canarias de 2011,  doctores Antonio Tejera Gaspar, catedrático en Arqueología y Premio Canarias de Patrimonio Histórico, y Wolfredo Wildpret de la Torre, catedrático en Botánica y Premio Canarias en Investigación e Innovación.

El documento, al que ha tenido acceso este medio, insta al Gobierno de Canarias y al Cabildo de Fuerteventura «a que renuncien definitivamente a ejecutar el Proyecto Monumental en la Montaña de Tindaya inspirado en la idea del escultor Eduardo Chillida». La argumentación de los expertos para llevar a cabo esta petición se basa en 4 amplios puntos que incluyen razones de tipo legal, teniendo en cuenta el alto nivel de protección del la Montaña de Tindaya; cultural, dado el valor arqueológico de la montaña, considerada sagrada por los antiguos pobladores de la isla, así como ambiental, artístico, técnico y económico.

Apuntan los firmantes que «numerosos especialistas en derecho, urbanismo, arqueología, geografía, geología e, incluso, del mundo del arte, consideran que dicha obra no es compatible con los niveles de protección que posee y con sus auténticos valores, los cuales podrían quedar seriamente afectados o desvirtuados».

Critican además que las dos instituciones que lo promueven, Gobierno autónomo y Cabildo, no hayan gastado ni un solo euro en la conservación de los múltiples valores culturales y ambientales que ya posee la montaña, entre los que se encuentra la estación de grabados podomorfos más importante del Archipiélago, con más de doscientas representaciones dibujadas sobre la piedra. Por el contrario, apuntan, «es muy evidente el abandono y expolio de los restos arqueológicos«, así como la degradación ambiental del entorno.

Dispendio económico

Los firmantes del manifiesto critican que, al mismo tiempo, se han dedicado en los últimos años más de 25 millones de euros para promocionar una obra, la de Chillida, que ni siquiera ha sido comenzada. Consideran que la viabilidad tanto técnica como económica del proyecto ha sido ampliamente cuestionada, a pesar de lo cual, apuntan, «se sigue derrochando dinero público en un momento de grave crisis para el conjunto de la sociedad canaria».

Los firmantes consideran que hasta ahora el proyecto monumental de Tindaya ha producido «un grave daño económico a la sociedad canaria«, convirtiéndose «en uno de los mayores escándalos políticos de las islas». El documento hace referencia a los procesos legales iniciados y aun no resueltos en los que se han investigado procesos fraudulentos asociados al proyecto, los cuales hacen que la actual propuesta  «ya no tenga que ver con la idea original de Chillida, pues el propio escultor ideó un proyecto limpio y respetuoso con el medio, y libre de sospechas de corrupción o negocios ilícitos, algo que, desgraciadamente, la realidad se ha encargado de contradecir».

En el manifiesto se mencionan posibles fraudes entre los que figuran los primeros actos administrativos que inician el expediente de Tindaya, «en uno de los cuales participó el propio Domingo Berriel, actual consejero de Medio Ambiente del Gobierno y promotor de la obra de Chillida», apuntan. También se hace referencia al «recurso de la empresa Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas contra ciertos actos del Gobierno» y, más recientemente, «el recurso contra las Normas de Conservación, por ser perversamente contrarias al fundamento de protección de la montaña».

Por estos motivos los firmantes instan al Gobierno de Canarias, al Parlamento autonómico, al Cabildo de Fuerteventura y a las fuerzas políticas «a que retiren el proyecto de Chillida y trabajen en un Nuevo Proyecto de Recuperación y Potenciación de los verdaderos valores de ese emblema del patrimonio natural y cultural de Canarias, que genere de una vez por todas beneficios culturales y económicos a los habitantes de la isla y no falsas promesas», según se recoge en el manifiesto. Del mismo modo hacen un llamamiento a la ciudadanía «a movilizarse, a extender la información sobre el proyecto y a impulsar un debate público sobre el futuro de Tindaya».
