Lancelot es, junto a La Voz de Lanzarote, el medio de comunicación con más solera de la isla entre los hoy por hoy existentes. Llevan más de 25 años sacando a la calle su revista-periódico semanal y, ciertamente, gozó de gran prestigio durante la mayor parte de ese tiempo. Un prestigo que su deriva editorial de los últimos años, obligada por los empresarios que compraron el medio, ha dilapidado.

La hemeroteca de la revista Lancelot, que se encuentra digitalizada y disponible vía web, es una herramienta fundamental para todo aquel que quiera investigar algunos de los sucesos relevantes que salpicaron la actualidad política conejera durante las últimas décadas. Eso sí, conviene distinguir entre los datos objetivos y las opiniones del medio vertidas en sus trasmallos y editoriales, pues estas últimas casi siempre estuvieron condicionadas por las necesidades económicas de la empresa.

No obstante, y como decimos, no ha sido hasta los últimos años que dichas opiniones se han radicalizado hasta extremos bochornosos, al punto de haberse convertido en uno de los medios más descaradamente partidistas y tendenciosos del panorama insular.

Como señaláramos cuando hablamos de Crónicas de Lanzarote, es verdad que a medios como La Voz de Lanzarote o Diario de Lanzarote (especialmente al primero) se les ve el plumero socialista en ocasiones. Pero hacen periodismo. Pueden dar más bombo a ciertas noticias y ocultar otras, pero no convierten sus informaciones en una pasta indefinible donde la opinión y la noticia son una misma cosa. Por ejemplo, entre las noticias de los mencionados medios sería imposible leer algo como lo que pudimos ver en el último número de Lancelot:

La cuenta atrás para que Manuela Armas abandone la Presidencia del Cabildo ha comenzado. El próximo sábado 17 de octubre el nacionalista Pedro San Ginés sustituirá a la que la oposición ha definido como la peor presidenta del Cabildo de la historia reciente, pues no ha sacado adelante ninguno de los temas importantes para la isla, sino que por el contrario los ha empeorado. Una moción de censura que se llevará a cabo a pesar de que los socialistas han utilizado todas sus armas, desde las legales hasta las mediáticas, para retrasar esta fórmula democrática y legal que ellos usaron en Teguise hace poco más de un mes. El objetivo era mermar la unión de CC, PNL, PIL y CC, algo que parece bastante difícil.

Usan el punto de vista de la oposición para fundirlo con el propio. El texto que acaban de leer se encuentra alojado en su sección «noticias». Supuestamente son las secciones editoriales (trasmallo, visto bueno, etc…) aquellas en las que el medio o quienes colaboran con el mismo expresan sus opiniones personales. Pero de un tiempo a esta parte la revista entera se ha convertido en un gran panfleto repleto de ejemplos como el anterior. Opiniones, además, interesadas como pocas pueden serlo, dados los empresarios que hay detrás: Rafael Lasso y Juan Francisco Rosa, por mencionar a dos de los más conocidos.

Lancelot ha renunciado al periodismo y a la profesionalidad para pasar a ser un mero libelo progandístico mediante el cual sus dueños intentan manipular y condicionar al gran público en su favor.

Entre sus últimas campañas cabe destacar la defensa a ultranza de los hoteles ilegales, erigiéndose en portavoces de algo que popularmente empezó a denominarse «la teoría del papelito». Basicamente venían a tachar de loco paranóico a todo aquel que insinuaba que detrás de las licencias a los complejos turísticos del sur había dinero bajo la mesa; y reducían los problemas legales de los alojamientos a meras deficiencias formales sin apenas importancia. Hoy todos sabemos que ni locura paranóica, ni deficiencias formales: cohecho, tráfico de influencias, malversación de fondos, prevaricación urbanística y blanqueo de capitales son las imputaciones que penden sobre el alcalde de Yaiza. Él mismo ha acabado confesando que, efectivamente, recibió dinero a cambio de conceder aquellas licencias que vulneraban la legalidad vigente.

Como quiera que fue Carlos Espino quien denunció personalmente a José Francisco Reyes (alcalde de Yaiza) y uno de los principales personajes que se interpone entre los dueños de Lancelot y sus intereses, el empeño indisimulado de este medio ha sido desprestigiar y quitar a tan molesto individuo de en medio.

Desde el 2006, fecha en la que la mencionada denuncia tuvo lugar, la radicalización editorial ha sido más que evidente. En el 2007 hicieron descaradísima campaña en favor de Inés Rojas e Isabel Déniz. En el 2008, cuando las elecciones internas del PSOE acontecieron, tomaron partido sin tapujos por la facción comandada por Damián Peña. Este último episodio conviene reseñarlo, pues supuso uno de los errores más sonados del grupo editorial de los Coll. Muchos socialistas que desconfiaban de Carlos Espino cerraron filas en torno a él en cuanto vieron la postura adoptada por Lancelot durante aquellas elecciones.

Desde luego, numerosas son las críticas que pueden hacerse al gobierno comandado por Manuela Armas y a Carlos Espino como Secretario General de un partido que ha cometido cuantiosos errores. Pero cuando esas críticas proceden de un medio incapaz de disimular los intereses de sus dueños, pierden toda credibilidad. Y es una auténtica pena, porque los ciudadanos de Lanzarote necesitamos un medio independiente que haga esas críticas a los socialistas con acierto y mínima imparcialidad, de forma que no sintamos insultada nuestra inteligencia cuando leamos o escuchemos tales críticas. Un medio en el que podamos confiar hasta cierto punto, de modo que cuando denuncien alguna barrabasada socialista no tengamos la sospecha de que puede ser una burda mentira confeccionada por un grupo mediático manipulado hasta decir basta.
