El dinero no sale de debajo de las piedras. Esta es una verdad muy comentada entre padres e hijos cada vez que estos van de compras con aquellos. Pues bien, el dinero procedente de las instituciones no es ninguna excepción. Y menos ahora que no disponemos de maquinita fabricamoneda propia. Con el euro, es el Banco Central Europeo quien parte y reparte, así que un Gobierno nacional europeo que pretenda transmitir optimismo a sus gobernados en tiempos de crisis debe echarle imaginación al asunto. Mucha imaginación.

A mí, los titulares de los dos periódicos provinciales más importantes, La Provincia y Canarias 7 –este último incorporando el nombre de Paulino Rivero, de forma un tanto forzada y ridícula–, propagando a los cuatro vientos el generoso regalo que se trajeron los ministros bajo el brazo, me recordó inmediatamente determinado pasaje de un libro que he leído un par de veces y que recomiendo enfervorecidamente a todo aquel que no lo haya hecho. Los párrafos en concreto son los siguientes:

Y un poco más adelante:

que pudieran tragarse aquello, si no habían pasado más que veinticuatro horas? Sin embargo,

En este caso no han pasado más de dos semanas desde que nuestro Gobierno español anunciara el cese de la deducción de 400 euros y el aumento de los impuestos. Lo que nos quitan por un lado, nos lo dan por el otro. Como no puede ser de otra manera, por cierto.

Aquí nadie regala un chavo. Los reyes magos no existen. Los ministros son gente normalita, sin poderes ni nada. Sus habilidades extraordinarias a lo máximo que llegan es a juegos de mano y a trucos de salón. Su cometido es mucho más insulso, aunque no carente de importancia; son individuos que se encargan de gestionar lo que entre todos producimos, ni más ni menos. Y con eso tienen que apañárselas para contentar a todo el mundo. A cada una de las diecisiete comunidades autónomas, a cual más pedigüeña e insolidaria.

Probablemente dentro de unos meses anuncien el fin de la ayuda por nacimiento, y al par de semanas publicitarán algún otro glorioso y magnífico regalo.

Eso sí, por mi parte no puedo dejar de manifestar mi alegría, porque parece que por fin dejamos atrás aquello de las ayudas indiscriminadas. Dar cuatrocientos euros a todo el mundo, o 2.500 a todos los padres, sin atender las necesidades particulares de cada caso, además de ser la antítesis del socialismo es un despilfarro incongruente. Los Estados no están para coger nuestro dinero y luego devolvérnoslo como si fuera un regalo. Así no funcionan.

Afortunadamente, parece que por fin se va a emplear ese dinero en aquello para lo que se debió usar desde el principio. Parques eólicos, institutos, escuelas, infraestructuras en general. Buenas son horas. Hemos perdido un tiempo valiosísimo por culpa del populismo ramplón de corte electoralista, pero esperemos que no sea demasiado tarde.

Canarias tiene mucho trabajo por delante. Las deficiencias que padecemos son tremendas, especialmente en materia de educación. La corrupción y el paro proceden de un empresariado poco preparado y de una población presta a dejarse engatusar por el primero que llega con el cuento de «lo nuestro». A parte de eso, y a pesar de ser una zona auténticamente privilegiada en cuanto a exposición solar, viento y mar, estamos a la cola en lo que a energías alternativas respecta. Para las cosas más básicas dependemos de lo que nos llega de fuera, y eso es algo a lo que hay que intentar poner remedio como sea.

Para concluir esta reflexión, quisiera mostrar mi inquietud respecto al reparto del dinero. En Lanzarote estamos demasiado acostumbrados a que los Hormiconsa de turno ganen siempre los procesos concursales. No en vano también han caído en el marco de la Operación Unión un par de personajes acusados de manipular concursos públicos. No necesitamos que asfalten más carreteras. Necesitamos otro tipo de cosas, y si no hay empresas locales capaces de hacer esas cosas, tendremos que buscarlas fuera de la isla. Es verdad que dar trabajo a gente de aquí también debe ser una prioridad, pero no a costa de entorpecer nuestro desarrollo y de dejarnos a la cola de de la cola de la cola de Europa. No necesitamos pan para hoy, sino pan para hoy y pan para mañana.
