La crisis no ha pasado factura al número de candidaturas presentadas a las elecciones del 22 de mayo, cuyo plazo para ser notificadas a la Junta electoral finalizó la pasada semana y hoy lunes 25 de abril serán ratificadas. A la espera del dato definitivo, el número de listas que se presentan al Cabildo de Lanzarote se mantiene intacta, con 10 propuestas. También habrá diez papeletas entre las que elegir a la hora de votar al Parlamento de Canarias desde la circunscripción lanzaroteña, una más que en los comicios de 2007. El ayuntamiento con más candidaturas presentadas es Arrecife, de cuyo pleno municipal aspiran a formar parte 12 partidos.

Entre los partidos sin representación en las actuales corporaciones quizás el que más ha dado que hablar en los últimos días haya sido el Partido Nacionalista Canario (PNC), que ha tirado de un “fichaje estrella” para encabezar una de las pocas candidaturas que presenta en la isla, la del Ayuntamiento de Arrecife. El conocido empresario local Eduardo Spínola será candidato a la alcaldía por una formación que se autodefine como “nacionalista, interclasista, democrática, progresista y social” y que acudirá en alianza con Coalición Canaria en la lista al Cabildo y Parlamento. De hecho, el PNC fue una de las formaciones que participaron en la fundación de CC en 1992 para abandonar la coalición en 1998, momento a partir del cual han concurrido a las elecciones a través de diferentes alianzas, entre ellas la que estrechó con el PIL y otros partidos nacionalistas e insularistas en 2003, bajo la fórmula de “Federación Nacionalista Canaria”.

En el ámbito del nacionalismo canario se encuentran también el Movimiento Patriótico Canario (MP) y Alternativa Nacionalista Canaria (ANC). El MP es una formación fundada y presidida por el editor palmero José Luís Concepción, autor de diferentes obras centradas en el mundo aborigen canario y la cultura popular de las islas. El MP ha recibido una importante cobertura mediática por parte del periódico tinerfeño “El Día” en su reciente conversión al soberanismo canario, publicando artículos de opinión y entrevistas a sus miembros de manera periódica. El MP insiste en la necesidad de descolonizar el Archipiélago Canario como parte de su ideario.  En Lanzarote la lista al parlamento y al ayuntamiento de Arrecife por esta formación independentista la lidera Aureliano Montero González, habitual durante los últimos lustros en varios medios de comunicación insulares y propietario de la emisora Radio Altahay.

Alternativa Nacionalista Canaria, por su parte, se define en sus principios ideológicos como una formación“nacionalista de izquierdas”, posición ideológica desde la que defiende la “autodeterminación e independencia del pueblo canario”. Su implantación en la isla de Lanzarote se ha llevado a cabo de manera reciente y la mayoría de quienes componen sus listas se encuentran tienen edades comprendidas entre los 20 y los 35 años. ANC está implantada fundamentalmente en la isla de Tenerife, donde cuentan con 14 comités locales y se presentan en un número importante de ayuntamientos además de al cabildo y parlamento. En Lanzarote se han dado a conocer sobretodo a través de la cartelería propagandística que han colocado por diferentes calles de las isla además de con la iniciativa del “carné de identidad canaria” (DNC) que trataba de dotar a los isleños de un documento nacional propio.

También concurren a estas elecciones las formaciónes políticas “Gestores por Lanzarote” (GpL), de ámbito local y sin adscripción ideológica clara, y “Movimiento por la Unidad del Pueblo Canario”, independentista. GpL se presentó en sociedad el pasado mes de noviembre y destacan entre sus filas Ricardo Tavío, de la Asociación de Consumidores ACULANZA, y José Julio Fernández Arocha.

IU y UPyD, estatales sin representación

Izquierda Unida Canaria (IUC) obtuvo representación por última vez en las instituciones lanzaroteñas en el año 1987, cuando la federación canaria de IU llevaba aun el nombre de Izquierda Canaria Unida. Obtuvo dos concejales en el ayuntamiento de Arrecife en una plancha encabezada por José Domingo Hernández, hoy miembro del PSC-PSOE, y otros dos por Tinajo en una lista liderada por Ramón Farray, de la actual ejecutiva de Comisiones Obreras. Izquierda Unida presenta a las próximas elecciones del 22 de mayo listas en San Bartolomé, Teguise, Cabildo y Parlamento. Entre sus principios, la transformación del actual sistema capitalista en una fórmula de socialismo democrático, fundamentada en los valores de la justicia, la igualdad y la solidaridad, en el marco de un Estado Federal y republicano.

El partido Unión Progreso y Democracia (UPyD), liderado a nivel estatal por la ex miembro del Partido Socialista Rosa Díez presenta candidaturas al ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Cabildo de Lanzarote y Parlamento de Canarias. Su comité local en Lanzarote no cuenta aun con un año de vida y ha estado liderado desde sus inicios por el abogado catalán Ignacio Prat Fontana, quien irá como cabeza de lista al cabildo, y el hostelero asturiano Ignacio Sáenz de Santamaría, que ocupa el primer puesto al parlamento. Más recientemente se ha incorporado el cabeza de lista al ayuntamiento de Arrecife, Jesús Cabrera Saavedra, quien por primera vez participa de la política activa.

Finalmente, Los Verdes – Partido Verde Canario, presentará a Dina Garzón a las elecciones del Parlamento de Canarias por la circunscripción de Lanzarote, con una ideología ambientalista. La candidata ha llevado a cabo manifestaciones en algunos medios de comunicación locales sobre el modelo económico de la isla o las alternativas energéticas limpias que pudiesen encajar en Lanzarote.
