El otro día decíamos que si algo caracterizaba al PSOE era el poder que había ostentado siempre en la isla. Pues hoy nos vamos al extremo opuesto y hablamos de uno de los partidos que tradicionalmente menos ha pintado en el panorama político insular.

Seguramente a un visitante ocasional este hecho le resultará extraño, tratándose de unas siglas que tanto peso tienen en toda España, incluídas la mayoría de Islas Canarias. Pero la extrañeza desaparece en cuanto repasamos la actitud mostrada históricamente por este partido en Lanzarote, especialmente las pocas veces que ha tenido ocasión de tocar sillón cabildicio. Una en el año 2001 y otra en el año 2005. Sólo la segunda vez dicha opción se materializó, y les duró apenas 4 meses. En ambas el comportamiento fue el mismo, servidumbre frente a los designios de José Manuel Soria, que prefirió sacrificar los intereses del PP lanzaroteño para salvaguardar los que tenía en otras islas.

Cuando escribimos sobre Suso Machín mencionamos cómo había llegado a alcalde de Tinajo en el año 2001, tras presentar una moción de censura a Marcos Hernández, del PSOE. Veamos lo que dijo al respecto Lancelot, un periódico nada sospechoso de ser anti Soria, como la última frase de la cita demuestra:

El PP no se lució. Con el asunto de la moción de censura en Tinajo, el PP lanzaroteño rayó el ridículo. No sólo porque todavía muchos de sus dirigentes y afiliados están con las manos en la cabeza preguntándose qué ganaron ellos con quitar a Marcos Hernández del PSOE para poner a Jesús Machín de Coalición Canaria, sino sobre todo porque de nuevo ha quedado en evidencia la falta de autonomía con la que cuenta en Canarias el Partido Popular. Que diga ahora el bueno de Alejandro Díaz, presidente del PP lanzaroteño, que no había pactado con PSOE y PIL votar contra la moción de censura presentada contra el alcalde de Tinajo, cuando media isla sabe lo que hubo -tal y como demostró el documento que sacó LANCELOT en el anterior número- parece un poco infantil. Alejandro Díaz, tal y como ha asegurado el secretario general del PSOE lanzaroteño, Manolo Fajardo, llegó a un acuerdo con socialistas e insularistas para hacer fracasar la moción de censura de Tinajo e integrarse en los grupos de Gobierno del Cabildo de Lanzarote y de Arrecife. Pero una vez más el PP de Madrid, atendiendo el ruego de los nacionalistas canarios, mandó a parar ese pacto por muy beneficioso que hubiera sido para los populares lanzaroteños. Pues eso, un 10 para Coalición Canaria y un cero patatero para el PP de Canarias. Eso no quita que José Manuel Soria sea un gran líder y si le dejaran pudiera dar más de un susto.

Desde luego, sustos siguió dando, y si no que se lo digan a Alejandro Díaz (expulsado en diciembre del 2006 al pretender dar algo de independencia a los populares de Lanzarote). Había un acuerdo para que el PP ayudara al PSOE a evitar la moción de censura en Teguise a cambio de entrar en el Cabildo, pero José Manuel dijo que no, y fué no.

Pero lo bueno vino en el año 2005. Vale la pena extenderse con este episodio, porque marcó un antes y un después tanto en el PP como en el devenir político de la isla. La famosa legislatura de los siete presidentes empezó tras darse los siguientes resultados electorales:

Eran necesarios 12 consejeros para conformar mayoría, y el pacto inicial fue PIL-CC (13 consejeros en total), con Dimas Martín al frente.

Así pues, la legislatura había empezado con Dimas como presidente, apoyado por CC, pero sus problemas con la justicia le sacaron bien pronto del sillón, y después de sucederse Mario Pérez (CC), María José Docal y Plácida Guerra, un miembro del Partido Popular se convierte en presidente de la máxima institución de Lanzarote, Francisco Cabrera. La historia la contó Lancelot así:

La crisis institucional que vive el Cabildo desde hace seis semanas, parece, por fin, que tiene una solución tras el acuerdo alcanzado por el PP con los cinco consejeros de Coalición Canaria y los cinco consejeros del PIL oficial de Celso Betancort, quienes finalmente firmaron una moción de censura contra María José Docal, presidenta del Cabildo por aquel entonces. Al parecer, la indecisión de Dimas Martín y la falta de control del partido fue decisivo para que el PP de Alejandro se desmarcará de los acuerdos alcanzados en su día tanto con el PIL de Dimas como con el PSOE de Manuel Fajardo. Todo apunta a que Alejandro Díaz llama telefónicamente a Manolo Fajardo el lunes 7 de enero, el día en que se celebró el famoso pleno de Arrecife para el asunto de la suspensión del Plan General de la ciudad, para contarle que el PP se desliga del acuerdo alcanzado semanas atrás con el PSOE y que unía a los dos partidos en esta crisis.

Efectivamente, el PIL se encontraba al borde de la extinción con un montón de tránsfugas, la mayoría de los cuales acabaron en CC, y esa división interna propició que algunos de los consejeros insularistas ayudaran a CC y PP a presentar una moción de censura a María José Docal, la cual acabó con Francisco Cabrera como presidente del Cabildo.

Pero poco le duró la alegría al PP. Como si no hubiera bastantes problemas a nivel insular, el Gobierno Autonómico regido por la dupla CC-PP entra en crisis cuando Adán Martín (CC) cesa a tres consejeros populares, entre los que estaba el hermano de José Manuel Soria. La reacción de éste no se hizo esperar, y a los pocos días Francisco Cabrera cesa a los consejeros de CC que sostenían el frágil equilibrio cabildicio. A nadie en Lanzarote le quedó la mínima duda de que la enésima crisis institucional, después de todo lo pasado durante aquella legislatura, la provocó un señor que nada tenía que ver con Lanzarote por puro despecho y venganza.

Luego vino la expulsión del que hasta entonces había sido presidente de los populares lanzaroteños. Alejandro Díaz era consciente de que con tanta cacicada soriana aquello no iba a ningún lado, así que se rebeló y la rebeldía le costó su expulsión. Al final sólo quedaron en el partido los títeres de Soria, los dóciles que no ponen nunca en entredicho los designios transmitidos desde Las Palmas.

Sin embargo, es posible que la luz al final del túnel sea visible para los populares tras las últimas elecciones internas de ámbito local. No son pocos los que ven en Ástrid Pérez una persona muy válida, capaz de dar a los populares esa dosis de personalidad que no han tenido hasta ahora entre tanto servilismo soriano. En Lanzarotelandia sólo podemos decir que nos lo creeremos cuando lo veamos. Lo que está claro es que mucho van a tener que cambiar las cosas en el PP de Lanzarote si quieren convencer a los potenciales votantes conservadores de Lanzarote de que su opción es preferible a la que representan los nacionalistas.
