Hablar del PSOE de Lanzarote es hablar del partido que más poder ha tenido en la isla, junto con el PIL, a lo largo de la historia de la democracia española. Para entender hasta qué punto esto es así, no tenemos más que echar un vistazo a la lista de presidentes cabildicios que han comandado la principal institución insular durante los últimos 30 años. Si lo hacemos, y empezamos a sumar buscando averiguar qué partidos políticos han gobernado durante más tiempo, nos salen las siguientes cifras:

Así pues, de los 30 años casi la mitad han sido copados por presidentes socialistas, y de esos al menos 11 fueron responsabilidad de un sólo hombre: Enrique Pérez Parrilla.

Es decir, que descartando los dos partidos hoy desaparecidos (UCD Y CDS) y centrándonos en los últimos veinte años, vemos cómo la dupla PSOE-PIL ha ostentado el poder de forma casi exclusiva en Lanzarote.

Una cosa hay que decir, porque no es un dato precisamente anecdótico, y es que esto ha ocurrido en Lanzarote mientras el Gobierno de Canarias venía siendo presidido por hombres de Coalición Canaria. Al menos durante los últimos 15 años. Quiere decirse que el partidismo político y la rivalidad entre regionalistas y socialistas ha perjudicado, sin ningún asomo de duda, a los lanzaroteños. No es tontería afirmar que a la hora de realizar inversiones y de soltar perras la ejecutiva regional escaqueó todo lo que pudo y más con tal de perjudicar a sus enemigos del PSOE. Afirmarción que queda bien refrendada cuando vemos el listado de dinero invertido en la isla en comparación con las otras.

Sin embargo, nada de eso puede excusar ni restar responsabilidad a un partido que sin ir más lejos, desde la principal institución lanzaroteña, no supo contener el desmadre urbanístico que hoy nos convierte en la isla con más paro de Canarias. Bien es cierto que se acometieron intentos. Y bien es verdad que poco se puede hacer cuando alcaldes díscolos deciden saltarse a la torera cualquier tipo de legislación territorial que les pongas por delante. Pero aún así…

Los pecados del PSOE proceden precisamente de esa posición de poder que siempre ha tenido en la isla. Es lógico y natural que tan privilegiada posición, que ese manantial de votos asegurado por la marca PSOE, atraiga a todo tipo de personajes para los que el socialismo es sólo una palabra y el partido un medio a través del cual trepar alto y favorecerse a sí mismo y a los suyos.

Seguramente el PSOE sea el partido, de los existentes en España, con unos estatutos más nobles y unos ideales más bellos, pero de poco sirven tanto lo uno como lo otro cuando quienes se erigen en representantes de la causa son unos golfos o unos chanchulleros. Cuando quienes consiguen trepar a los más altos escalafones no son los mejores, sino los que más medran o los que más poder económico tienen detrás.

Mucho más allá del mencionado desmadre urbanístico, si hay algo que se puede echar en cara al PSOE de Lanzarote (teniendo en cuenta que es difícil hablar de un colectivo de esta forma, sin distinguir entre responsabilidades individuales), es el haber llenado las instituciones lanzaroteñas de ineptos y de trabajadores inútiles o no necesarios. No es que se distinga en esto nada del resto. A CC, sin ir más lejos, no le costó más de un par de años llenar los ayuntamientos que gobernaron con «su gente». Y el PIL porque en este capítulo es un mundo aparte.

Pero ahora no estamos hablando de CC ni del PIL. Habamos del PSOE. Y el PSOE se ha dedicado a sobredimensionar plantillas y a subir sueldos de forma indiscriminada. Es natural que uno intente ayudar a «los suyos» cuando ocupa determinados cargos desde los que echar una mano, pero cuando los funcionarios dejan de hacer bien su trabajo por acomodo o incapacidad, el problema lo tenemos todos. Y si esa incompetencia pasa de ser puntual para acabar contaminando todas las instituciones y empresas públicas, entonces el problema que tenemos todos es colosal. Tú puedes contratar a alguien que conoces porque crees que necesita el trabajo, vale, pero siempre teniendo en cuenta la valía de esa persona y la certeza de que ese trabajo específico lo debe ocupar alguien. Pero si lo que haces, en cambio, es fabricar de la nada un puesto no productivo que simplemente va a exprimir un poco más las arcas públicas, entonces la cosa es bastante más repudiable. Y esto ha pasado mucho.

Reiteramos que lo que aquí contamos no es algo que pueda ser achacable a todos los socialistas. Pero sí a muchos. El ejemplo Dimas caló hondo entre una generación de políticos que, sin importar el partido en el que militaran, se acostumbraron a considerar normal determinadas prácticas que no eran en absoluto normales. Y en el PSOE, insistimos, ha habido muchos de estos políticos.

Concluyendo, el PSOE es un partido que ha sido y va a seguir siendo clave en el desarrollo de la isla. Para mal y para bien. Vamos, que la gente va a seguir votando al PSOE. Por lo tanto, en la medida que la militancia del PSOE esté más repleta de golfos e interesados, los perjudicados seremos todos. Si, en cambio, va entrando gente nueva, gente que se mantenga fiel a unos ideales y a unos estatutos que entiendan y compartan, gente no contaminada por otro tipo de historias que no sean el intentar trabajar por el bien común, entonces los que ganaremos, igualmente, no serán sólo los socialistas, sino la isla entera.

Lo que hace falta, pues, es que el PSOE empiece a atraer a ese tipo de gente. Que vendan su clásico poder insular no como una oportunidad de lucro personal, sino como esa gran herramienta al alcance de cualquiera que pretenda hacer de Lanzarote un sitio mejor. Porque al fin y al cabo los partidos políticos no dejan de ser herramientas al servicio de quienes las manejan. Y si las herramientas fallan, a veces no es culpa de ellas, sino de quienes las malemplean.
